Software Information Collection Policy
As you use our software, we collect anonymous usage statistics about which features you are using to help us improve our products and services.
Whenever we collect this information, we want to make sure you are OK with us receiving this information so we make sure to provide easy ways to opt-in and out from within the software.
What data is collected and why
We gather anonymised statistics about what features you use in our products, as well as how time-intensive those features are. For example, in Myriad Playout we might gather top level statistics about which way you prefer to open SmoothEdit, and inside SmoothEdit we might look at which actions take the longest.
Another example is when we release new versions of a product we are interested in seeing if a new feature or improvement has improved your day, or whether it could do with a bit more polish. Sometimes it's just useful to know which features are never used, so we can concentrate on improving the ones that are!
This information is then summarised and given to our development team so they can look for ways to make it easier to use those features, and critically, what we can do to make them faster so you can get on with the rest of your day.
Because we are continually developing our products, getting this feedback allows us to make sure we are always building the best possible tools for you to use, as well as making sure that any new features.
If our software crashes then it may also send a crash report to us for analysis - this includes the details of the crash itself and the activity at the time of the crash, and may also include the license details so we can contact your organisation for more information if nescessary.
What we don't collect
We NEVER automatically collect any statistics data that could be used to identify you personally - such as your personal name or email address. We also never collect any security information like passwords or pin codes.
In fact, the statistics are actually gathered using a randomly generated ID number that is not connected to any other product or service either from us, or from any other company.
We NEVER share the gathered statistics or crash information with any third party organisations.
How do we keep your data safe
The statistics are packaged and encrypted and sent over secured internet connections to dedicated servers.
This is a tiny amount of data and it won't affect the performance of the software as it's only sent when it isn't being actively used.
Even though the statistics are fully anonymous, we limit the number and role of Broadcast Radio employees who can see the actual data, and even that access is reviewed regularly. Summaries of the statistics are used by our Developers and Product Managers solely for the purposes of product improvement.
How to control what statistics you send us
The first time you start a Broadcast Radio Product that is able to gather this anonymous information you will be asked a simple opt-in or out question. You will also see a link to this Data Collection Policy so you can review what this data is used for.
If you later want to review this setting you can do this via the Settings menu in your application.
